Edwardian Conservatories

Edwardian Conservatories from Direct Conservatories 4U

The Edwardian conservatory is a popular style due to its streamlined elegant structure and the ease of fitting furniture into its rectangular shape.

This simple structure means the Edwardian conservatory lends itself well to small spaces, its rectangular base maximising the floor space available in even the smallest garden The design also offers extra headroom, giving a spacious feel to even the most modest of conservatories.

Becoming popular during the reign of Queen Victoria, conservatories in the UK were originally elaborate and ornate structures which represented a grand edition to an architectural style focusing on adornment and intricate detailing.

By the time Edward was on the throne, architecture began to reflect the affordable housing for the new middles classes, which were modeled on traditional country buildings with simple designs. The design of these Edwardian conservatories reflects the simple approach to building of the era.

Styles and types of Edwardian conservatory

All of our Edwardian conservatories include two top-opening vents and a pair of French doors (sometimes called “French windows”) as standard. We also offer a number of conservatory extras to allow you to personalise your conservatory.

If you thought having a property with low eaves, such as a cottage or bungalow, meant only having the option of a traditional/lean-to conservatory, then think again.

Edwardian conservatories are available with a double-hipped roof as well as a standard roof. A double-hipped roof allows for increased roof height, not restricted by the height of the building it is connected to. (Our double-hipped conservatories come with a rear box gutter.)

Our conservatories are made from a unique framing system, which combines structural integrity with a faster, easier installation. Our conservatory roofs are made from PVCu-clad aluminium which comes in two finishes: white PVCu and woodgrain PVCu. We only use grade 1 virgin high quality durable PVCu, with no re-grind, so we can guarantee against PVCu discolouration.

The roof's aluminium core offers strength and our roofs are glazed with polycarbonate panels as standard. The glazing options available are: clear, opal, bronze and bronze on opal tinted polycarbonate panels, either 25mm or 35mm thick, or Celsius Performance Glass.

All of our Edwardian conservatories are available in dwarf wall, infill panel and glass to ground styles. Dwarf wall conservatories have a small brick wall at the base of each conservatory wall, which gives the feeling that the conservatory is an integral part of the house.

Infill panel conservatories emulate the style of a traditional sunroom. They give the additional privacy the dwarf wall style offers, but are easier to self-build. Glass to ground conservatories offer maximum light exposure but less privacy than dwarf wall and infill panel conservatories.
